19th century and academic art planners

The French 19th century is a century of quarrels. At the École des Beaux-Arts and at the Salon, academic art reigned, a demanding craft, that of William Bouguereau, Alexandre Cabanel and Jean-Léon Gérôme, formed by drawing, the study of antiquity and the Prix de Rome. Facing them, the Romanticism of Delacroix, the Realism of Courbet, the landscape painters of Barbizon, then the Impressionists who exhibited together for the first time in 1874. These two planners, one devoted to academic art, the other to the century as a whole, exist in the 2027 edition and in the 2026, 2027 school year, four volumes in all. Works described with their captions, ornaments drawn from the engraving of the time, and working pages made to serve all year round.
